Loquat Seedlings Available

Our loquat tree was hard to photograph, so here's a stand-in
We have some loquat seedlings to offer any interested neighbors. The tree from which the seeds dropped is currently fruiting. If you haven't tasted them before, the fruit is tangy, sweet, and juicy with varying levels of acidity. It has what I would call a "tropical" taste.

Our loquat tree does extremely well here in Lido Shores. It had no difficulties with this year's extended cold periods and it always looks lovely through the summer.

The tree is a large evergreen shrub or small tree. We have kept it pruned to about 10 feet tall. Loquats are easy to grow and are often used as an ornamental in the Sarasota area. The tree is drought tolerant, but it produces better with regular deep watering.

Editors note: According to Wikipedia, the loquat is indigenous to China, and has been cultivated in Japan for more than 1,000 years. It is also known as a Japanese or Chinese plum.
