Spring Pot Luck 2011 - Our President's Take

Spring Pot Luck Review

At the annual meeting, lots of members had voted for a block party format.  Turned out to be hard to put together, and instead we decided on the pavilion for the tables and chairs, and the parking lot for the bar and buffet.  Our long-serving and long-suffering Social Chair Joan Reinebach broke in a new crew:  Anne Essner, Joe DeLeo, and Richard LaBrie

You only get one crack at a first impression: they started with a attention grabber, the new format invitation.  And they promised a door prize to those who RSVPed (is there such a verb? It ends in “peed,” a syllable of considerable significance to some of us.)  Please tell the committee what you’ll bring, they had asked, so that we don’t end up with nothing but mashed potatoes and dessert.

Of course not everyone did reply.  Why rush things when you can wait until the last second before you commit?  Stay calm—sixty-one people showed up, with lots of great food and insane desserts.  The afternoon was beautiful, and predictably the crowd hung around the food buffet and the bar, tended by our suave barista Luis Cersosimo.  Every drop of white wine was consumed, all the beer, and pretty much all the red.  Definitely a fine party.

Conclusion: our new board members and social committee are bringing energy and enthusiasm to the task, and our membership responds to that.  Thanks to everyone who came, and to all who pitched in with setting up and cleaning away afterwards.
