The board asked Andrew Vac to explore whether Florida Power & Light would install a separate meter for the Association, and how much it would cost to run a line from the meter to the parking lot and pavilion. FPL, it turns out, would be happy to oblige, and we have one quotation from a reputable electrician to run the line underground to the pavilion, and to install outlets and turtle-protective lights there.
Brings us to two questions: first, what use would we make of the electricity? Heat food for barbecues and potluck suppers? Sure, but perhaps more useful in the parking lot that the pavilion. Lights at the pavilion? Sunset ranges from about 7:00 pm in the winter to 8:30 pm in the summer, and we have to be out at midnight. Seducing the new turtle hatchlings away from the Gulf is always a problem. Electrical devices such as music boxes and TVs? Is that what we really want on our beautiful primitive beach?
Second, are the results worth the money, about $12,000 up front plus whatever the monthly bill would be ($50? $100?) The investment means an assessment of $135 per Association member.

I, personally, don't think it's necessary to have electricity in the pavillion. But, what I think is REALLY necessary is to have a bathroom.
ReplyDeleteEven without electricity, there are battery-powered lamps and music players that we could use for atmosphere.
We still want to maintain that beachy-primitive feeling. It's important to have what you need, such as a bathroom. But we don't need extra frills.
What would be the reason for clearing the vegetation near the pavilion? Is room being made for healthier plants or additionl parkinng?
