Great Turnout on Perfect Potluck Evening

Comfortably seated on his festively lighted deck overlooking a moonlit Pansy Bayou…Howard Rooks could finally relax. The self-effacing host was still busy though, accepting a string of accolades from departing guests. "Love your house, Howard." "Best party in Lido Shores." Howard smiled and reminded a small circle of neighbors that it wouldn't have been such a grand evening without them.

At the end of the night, with an 18-year-old scotch in hand and long past the suggested 7:30 pm curfew, Lido Shores' unofficial census taker Andrew Vac said he counted 75 people at the height of the evening… including a few of our newest LSPOA members. Spotted in the throng, new members Scott and Jill Ramsey of 1219 Westway Drive and Jorja and Jerry Allen of 340 Morningside Drive. It was really great to see some of our venerable long-time members too: Les and Lois Fishman, Saul and Florence Putterman, Bob Garvin and Julie Magenheim, Carol and Tom Williams and Alice Allen.

Special thanks also belongs to Social Committee chair Anne Essner and countless Lido Shorian volunteers who seamlessly created, executed and then quietly wisked away the tables, chairs and few leftovers into the night. Anne has elevated our Potluck's and other events to another level. That said, she will likely be stepping down from her position as social gathering guru next year. So we'll be scouring the membership for someone to step in and step up to fill those shoes. If you would like to tackle this much needed position or know someone to nominate, please let Anne know. Another notable thank you goes to Kathy Edstrom for sorting out name tags for our new neighbors.

Bob Essner, who has stealthily and skillfully upgraded our event wines, reported that members and guests by night's end had quaffed some 48 bottles, (four-cases worth) of red and white vino. There was also quite an abundant bounty of delicacies provided by the culinarily inclined among us. Thanks to all who shared their favorite dishes and recipes.

A reminder that our Sunset Gatherings at the Beach Pavilion are the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month, so that means the next scheduled one will be Sunday, December 1st. Bring a light appetizer and something to drink as we collectively gaze at another spectacular sunset on Lido Beach.
