No Sunset, but Hardy Band of Lido Shorians Brave Threatening Weather—Plus Pavilion & Bocce Updates

A small but hardy neighborhood contingent turned out for the 3rd Sunday of April Sunset Gathering. There was only one thing missing — a sunset. Storm clouds began rolling in late  afternoon, holding down the usual crowd, but that didn't deter this group from enjoying each other's company.

They also got a chance to see first hand some of the ongoing renovations at the Pavilion. Two deteriorating sections of the wooden ramp leading to the Pavilion have now been replaced, along with all new nuts and washers, replacing those that had given way to rust over the years.  

Several cypress boards were also replaced on the seating surfaces of the benches. And overhead, the galvanized metal drip edge that had virtually disintegated underneath the roof has been completely replaced all around. Still to do—rust stain removal and the replacement of several more bench boards.

And you might also have noticed the new bocce court well underway. Bob Essner, who is footing the bill for construction, contracted with Richard LaBrie to do the framing and filling work on the court.

We spotted Richard one sweltering afternoon toiling away. It's going to be a first-class addition to our ever improving beach parking area.  

We hear that the next step will be shipping in a deluxe surface topping made of a specially formulated, finely crushed oyster shell to create a smooth rolling surface. Can't wait for the first tournament!
