The Sarasota
Police Department and Chief Bernadette DiPino proudly presents Detective Maria
Llovio as the Department’s Sworn Employee of the Year. Detective Llovio has been assigned to
the Crimes Against Property Unit since November 2011. She works Pawns, Second Hand Dealers, and Scrap Metal Dealer
investigations. She has taken on
several projects and investigations which have made her stand out from the
rest.
Detective Llovio’s efforts
helped change an ordinance within the City of Sarasota that now has restrictions
and guidelines for reporting Scrap Metal and Second Hand Dealer
transactions. The change in the ordinance
provides better reporting procedures and new ways of helping victims recover
their stolen property.
Detective
Llovio manages the FINDER program, gathering information from Pawn Brokers,
Second Hand Dealers and Scrap Metal Dealers in the area. She is an integral part of making this
system work. She has worked
undercover operations in Dealing in Stolen Property which has resulted in
locating stolen jewelry as well as thousands of dollars in US currency has been
seized.
Detective Llovio has a
positive and professional attitude which reflects in her work. She is a liaison within the community
she serves as she attends numerous neighborhood meetings and became the point
of contact for Court Watch. Detective
Llovio was presented with the award on April 8, 2013 at the Sarasota Police
Department’s Annual Awards Ceremony. Detective Llovio’s family and friends were in attendance to watch her
accept the award. We are proud to
have Detective Maria Llovio as our Sworn Employee of the Year, 2012.
