A large contingent of
Lido Shorians cruised back in time on Sunday. The occasion was the
Historical Society of Sarasota County's 20th Annual Float Back in Time History Cruise. Historical Society member
Ken Abt and wife Peggy rallied the
Kocian's, Reinebach's, Fishman's, Robbin's, Bob Garvin and Julie Magenheim to attend the 2-hour tour aboard the LeBarge. (It's the boat moored at Marina Jack with live palm trees on the upper deck.)
Susie and Bob Thill were also on board, guests of local historian and narrator John McCarthy. (The Thill's were the high bidder for cruise tickets at the Scallopalooza Fund Raiser awhile back.)

| Historian John McCarthy filled us in on the local lore. |
A history tidbit. We learned that our Lido Key was once referred to as Mackerel Isle and Little Sarasota Key. John Ringling coined the current
Lido Key moniker, borrowing the name from Lido beach near Venice, Italy.
