It's been years, but the LSPOA beach benches are finally back. Where they belong. On the beach. Pounding waves from a storm in October, 2015 buried the benches, purchased in 2008, under the sand at the beach. They were dug out and re-anchored to submerged concrete blocks.
That lasted for about three months. Another storm in January, 2016 ripped the benches from their anchors and sent them out into the Gulf. One was found floating near Marine Max. The other, a month later, was discovered by LSPOA member John Byles lodged in the rocks at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron.
Both were recovered (LSPOA Property is stamped on them) and placed along the path to the beach, on much higher ground. There they've resided the past 7-years or so. Not exactly the best location for sunset watching.

With the Pavilion undergoing construction of a new roof... former LSPOA Prez Denis Bischoff suggested moving the benches back to the beach. With the help of Elliott Himelfarb, Mark Baumgarten and LSPOA President Cathy Voigts, the sturdy, well-traveled benches are back on the beach, next to the Pav, for now.
Hurricane season starts in about 6-weeks. Maybe we outfit them with one of those Wifi luggage finder tags for their next wayward journey? Just thinking out loud.
