| Phillip Hanson Hiss Award Dinner at Umbrella House |
Two of Lido Shores most famous homes served as the backdrop for Architecture Sarasota's Phillip Hanson Hiss Award Dinner last Saturday evening (March 11th). Some 200-people, including a table of Lido Shorians, soaked in the elegant atmosphere; first for cocktails in front of the Hiss Studio, and then for dinner under the stars at the Umbrella House.
The inaugural Hiss Award was given to Toshiko Mori, an acclaimed architect known for her ecologically sensitive designs. The award was established to promote innovative design and to celebrate the contributions of Lido Shores' Founder Philip Hiss, the primary catalyst of the Sarasota School of Architecture.

Hiss converted an uninhabited sandbar into what's become Sarasota's most desirable neighborhood. Lido Shores broke ground in 1952 with a model home that has become an icon of Sarasota Modernism; architect Paul Rudolf's Umbrella House, owned by LSPOA members Bob and Anne Essner. Anne is also Board President of Architecture Sarasota. The Hiss studio is owned by members Andrew and Tony Garvin.
Among the other Lido Shorians attending were Gail and Stu Barzman, Erika Ivanyi and Matthias Schubnell, Carrie and Ken Cox, Jan and Bill Farber, Cathy and Jan Voigts, Donna Wetzler and Susie and Bob Thill.
