Lido Shorians Volunteer for Kids Fight Against Hunger

Editors Note:  It was a busy February for Lido Shorians.  Here's another heart warming story sent in by member Karyn Smith.

I organized and coordinated a Kids Against Hunger Food Packing Event at my church, The Church on the Circle, St. Armands Key Lutheran Church, on behalf of the Community Service Ministry Committee, for which I am the Chair.  Saturday, February 11, 2023 we held a "Have a Heart, Feed a Child" with Kids Against Hunger.  

There were 26 volunteers from LSPOA, and more were registered but couldn’t attend due to COVID.  Our own Katie Best did all the artwork and signs to save money for the costs of the event.

Kids Against Hunger – Florida is a non-profit humanitarian organization with a mission to provide hydrated meals to children and families experiencing hunger. With 17% of people in Florida nutrient deprived, their goal is to supply food across Florida and across the globe. kahflorida.org

 

The unplanned, but very real beneficiaries of Kids Against Hunger are the volunteers who package the food. In total there were 125-people including 19-National Honor Society students from The Classical Academy of Sarasota.  There was also representation from the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota as well as kids from the Sarasota School System.  

 

As a group we packaged 23,000 adult/46,000 kid's meals.  Half of the food went to Gladiolus Food Pantry in Ft Myers to benefit those suffering from Hurricane Ian. The other half of the food went to Feeding Empty Little Tummies in Bradenton which supplements those in need from the school system.

We are so fortunate to have such a caring and supportive community in Lido Shores.

Although I organized and coordinated this effort, none of it would have been a success without the volunteers and I am so very grateful and proud of our Lido Shores Community.  LSPOA members who participated:
