Herbert E. Beningson 1934 - 2022
Our condolences go out to longtime Lido Shorian Herb Beningson, who passed away on September 18, 2022 at the age of 88 in Sarasota.
Herb was born in Danbury, CT in 1934, went to Stamford High School and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy New York where he received a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering in 1955.
Herb is survived by his wife Rhoda, who he married in 1959. He was Executive Vice-President of his own Engineering company, and later worked for Stratford Development Corporation before retiring to Sarasota at the age of 60 in 1993.
Herb was an avid sailor, (he owned 7-sailboats over the years) and was well known for driving around in his convertible or walking his wired haired dachshund Sweetpea.
Herb and Rhoda lived next door to Joan and Larry Reinebach (1126 Westway Drive).
According to Joan:
"They welcomed us with open arms when we first moved to Lido shores. Herb was Treasurer of LSPOA, (he served on the Board from 2003-2006) and was in charge of 'beach clickers' for many years. Larry eventually inherited the title of 'Clicker Man" from Herb in 2007.
After leaving Lido Shores and selling their home to Howard Rooks, Herb and Rhoda moved downtown to 1350 Main Street. Years later they moved to Aviva Senior Living. Rhoda recently moved to Vermont to be with family."
Herb is survived by his wife Rhoda, son Marc and his wife Basya in Passaic, NJ, son David and his wife Judy in Waitsfield, VT, 4-grandsons, 3-granddaughters, 4-great grandsons, many nieces and nephews and an extended family of friends who all referred to his as Uncle Herb.
Thanks to Joan Reinebach for passing along the information for this story.
