Lobster Rolls, Humidity and Grand Prix Races

Call it what you want... but this past Sunday's Grand Prix event on the beach was just plain hot and steamy. Our newest attraction, the Maine Line Lobster Food Truck, was a nice addition to the usual holiday hot dogs and chips. Did we mention the humidity? Not that it's unusual for July in Sarasota... but whew!

You get the picture. But soaring temps did not discourage some 90+ Lido Shorians, friends and family from enjoying a day on the sand to socialize and watch the 37th annual P1 Offshore Sarasota Grand Prix 2022.   

Beach umbrellas, tents and turtle nests dot the beach

Colorful beach umbrellas and tents dotted the shoreline. The Pavilion was also a shady respite from the sun. An open bottle of Kettle One vodka sat on a red white and blue tablecloth, near a half-filled jug of freshly squeezed lemonade. LSPOA also provided beer and bottled water. Thanks to past Prez Denis Bischoff for lugging ice to the Pav, bringing watermelon and setting up coolers.

A parade of sleek and loud racing boats motored back and forth through New Pass, just yards from our beach front, to compete in various size and class categories just off the main Lido Key public beach. There were a couple of mishaps, including this collision of two boats captured during one of the heats by LSPOA member John Byles.

The Maine Line Lobster Truck

The Maine Line Lobster truck was well received. Signature cold and hot lobster rolls were gobbled up... along with hotdogs and other summer fare. While getting good marks for taste... the service left something to be desired, with several hungry neighbors waiting... and waiting... for their order to be taken and then served.  

Despite the delay, co-social chair Jan Farber said the lobster rolls were really worth waiting for. Side note... our own Lido Shores Macgyver Elliott Himelfarb was at it again, this time changing a tire on the food truck so the owner could try to keep up with food preparation.
