The
Sarasota Architectural Foundation (SAF) is delighted to report that the
SarasotaMOD Weekend was again a wonderful success, reimagined to comply with the social distancing requirements of 2020. Thank you to our
Lido Shores neighbors for supporting and participating in the annual Lido Shores house tour, this year redesigned as the “Gulf & Gardens” outdoor-only tour.
The tour featured 10 homes around Lido Shores, and in addition to focusing on our wonderful architecture, highlighted special features of our neighborhood with Bay, Gulf, Bayou and New Pass views.
This year’s seventh annual SarasotaMOD Weekend celebrated the achievements of architect Carl Abbott, FAIA.
Special events included “A Conversation with Carl”, “Carl By Car” self-guided house-exterior tours, an architectural kayak tour, Carl's sculpture exhibition at the Art Center Sarasota and other events.
The Sarasota Art Museum exhibit featuring Carl’s work is still available for visits until April 2021.
Here in Lido Shores, the Saturday tour was sold out at maximum capacity (to comply with 2020 guidelines for outdoor events), though Sunday’s attendance was lighter as Tropical Storm Eta moved closer.
The Putterman House on Morningside Drive is one of Carl Abbott’s masterworks, and was one of the highlights of this year’s tour.
If you didn’t get to stop by the
MOD Shop for SarasotaMOD merchandise, including mugs and coasters featuring original
John Pirman artwork of our own
Umbrella House and Hiss Studio, please contact Carrie Cox (
carrie.cox@mac.com) to arrange purchase.
Thanks again Lido Shores — SAF's SarasotaMOD will be back again next year!
