Sunset Gatherers encounter the elusive Green Flash

10 neighbors gathered at the Beach Pavilion for a LSPOA Sunset Gathering on a perfect evening on Sunday, April 5th. The group hypothesized that the small turnout was probably because it was Easter Sunday, and others were perhaps enjoying Easter dinner or remains of chocolate bunnies and jelly beans.

Those attending munched on Howard Rooks’ soon to be famous crab cakes, as well as luscious spring rolls, grilled chicken, teriyaki meatballs, dips, and chicken and cheese en croute. Neighbors gathering included Howard Rooks, Judy and Fred Fiala, Joan Reinebach, (husband Larry being under the weather), Ken Abt (wife Peggy being ill too), Julie Pendergast, Diane Desenberg, Lois Fishman’s visiting son and a friend, and Carol Bowen.

The best part was not only a perfect Lido Shores sunset, but everyone oohing and aahing as they saw the infamous but elusive and rare “green flash” as the sun descended into the water. Many commented they’d heard about it, but never seen it, and didn’t believe it actually existed.

Sunset Gatherings are the 1st and 3rd Sundays each month, and neighbors gather about an hour before sunset. Bring your favorite appetizer to share and a cold libation or two, and celebrate our spectacular Lido sunsets. Maybe you too will be lucky enough to see the “green flash”!

The next Sunset Gathering will be on Sunday, April 19. See you then!
