The board also voted to utilize all of this year's membership dues to reconfigure and update the Lido Shores Pavilion. The Pavilion will be renamed "The Pav". Improvements include a new "Tiki Bar" look, complete with thatched roof, a fully functioning bar and a solar powered sound-system with disco lighting. Admission will be charged to non-residents who happen by on the beach to help defray the cost of full-time bartender and bouncer, and to keep the bar stocked with premium brand liquors. A new signature drink called the "Lido Lemonade" will be available during happy hour. LSPOA members will be admitted at no charge, with your clicker serving as your entry key. As one board member put it, "Sunset Gatherings will never be the same."
In Phase II of the Pav redevelopment plan, a large, salt water hot tub, cabana changing area and bathrooms will be added in 2016.
In other board action, before taking it's yearly summer recess, the Directors voted to move the LSPOA Annual Meetings from Bird Key to Cancun, Mexico. It's a little farther to go, admitted several members, but the margarita's in the Mexican resort community make it worth the trip. As a result of the meeting change of venue, a yearly assessment of $1,000 per member will be required. "So much for the rebate", shrugged one board member.
A long standing request to bury the Lido Shores neighborhood power lines was also approved by a unanimous vote. Previous estimates of up to $15,000 per household and strict FPL guidelines had prevented the underground idea from being implemented in the past. So the LSPOA board voted on a "do it yourself" plan to bury the lines using neighborhood volunteers.
Here's how it works. Each volunteer will be assigned a number of power poles to cut down. Then, those with any previous electrical experience will be tasked with figuring out a way to get the downed power lines underground before FPL gets wind of the plan. The Board is counting on FPL's late or near non-existent response time to previous power outages in Lido Shores to have plenty of time to get the project finished without incurring any expense to property owners. We'll keep you posted.
And finally, your LSPOA Board is taking a proactive stance on the medical marijuana debate currently before the Florida legislature. From now on, the twice yearly Lido Shores Potluck Dinners must actually include some form of "pot." The social committee, after a lengthy late night session, voted to use the alphabet system to determine who would bring dishes containing cannabis. This Fall, those with last names beginning with the letters A–Z, would be required to only bring weed-infused desserts. According to committee members, this would eliminate the need for jello mold appetizers and mystery meat entrees.
Exhausted, the LSPOA board voted to adjourn until next April 1st.
All in good fun, your editors hope you enjoyed this first (and probably last?) April Fool's edition.
