The official grand opening event takes place December 15th, beginning at 3:00 pm and coinciding with that evening's Sunset Gathering. So come just a little earlier than usual, bring a beverage and a snack, and plan to roll a bocce ball or two on the recently completed court.
Bocce is one of the oldest sports around and was made popular in Italy. The ancient bowling game is relatively simple. Played by two teams of 1 to 4 players, the game begins by rolling a small ball or pallina from one end of the long, flat court to the other. Then players take turns trying to roll the bocce balls closest to the pallina.

The Lido Shores Bocce Court was constructed over the 2013 summer months. Bob and Anne Essner and Bob and Sue Lifeso provided the inspiration and the funding.
As part of the team effort, Richard LaBrie and Elliott Himelfarb worked to build the 60- by-10 foot court. The two Bob's then began the process of hard packing the surface using brooms and a roller.
LSPOA also assisted in the cooperative spirit by installing a permanent bench alongside the court.
