When Pigs Fly...or at Least Go Boating

LSPOA member Ken Abt and grandkids boating with a rather portly porker on Lake St. Catherine, Vermont

While many Lido Shorians and their family and friends gathered for hot dogs at the beach for the annual grand prix boat races here...some of our neighbors celebrated the holidays in other places and in other ways.  None more humorous than LSPOA board member Ken Abt and grandchildren.  Ken sent us these pictures from Lake St. Catherine in central Vermont, where the Abt's have a New England summer home.

It's hard to ignore the portly passenger straddling the back seat of Abt's boat.  The porky, blow-up Blue Pig earned Ken a couple of first place awards at the lake's holiday boat parade this year.  Abt's entry took first place for best overall entry... and no surprise here...also tied for most original.  Some 32-boats entered the July 4th event.

The inspiration came from a Middletown, Vermont bank that celebrated it's 125th anniversary by handing out little piggy banks.  It used the big Blue Pig as part of the promotion in a land based town parade a week earlier.  Ken just took it to the next level, borrowed the porker, strapped it to his boat...and surely amused his northern neighbors.  Had the straps failed to hold, Ken says, "we really would have seen at least this pig fly."
