New Crime Prevention Officer Assigned to Lido Shores

Officer Linda DeNiro
Editors Note: A second Officer "D" is Lido Shores' latest Crime Prevention Officer. Officer Linda DeNiro will work the day shift which includes our neighborhood. The original Officer "D", Donzia Franklin, remains on the night-shift until her retirement next year.

Officer DeNiro sent the following email this week. She also forwarded some requested background information and a picture as well. Please welcome Officer DeNiro to the neighborhood! ~ BT

Hi Mr. Thill,

I am Officer Linda DeNiro of the Sarasota Police Department. I am the Crime Prevention Officer assigned to the south-side of Sarasota neighborhood associations, which include the Lido Shores Property Owners Association. I am available for questions and concerns from you and your residents and will be happy to attend meetings or events if any are being held by your neighborhood association. The Sarasota Police Department looks forward to partnering with the residents of Lido Shores to keep you all informed and help keep the community safe! Feel free to email me or call with any concerns or questions that may arise as well as confirming the date and time of your annual meeting.

I have been a police officer for almost 28 years, 24 of them here in Sarasota. I was a Patrol Officer in NJ and moved to Sarasota in 1989. After 8 years on patrol, I became a detective and worked on all cases including economic crimes, crimes against children, burglary, theft, rape, robbery, and murder. My most acclaimed cases included the Mark Daigle serial rapist case in 1997 and the Delmar Smith murder case most recently. When our new Chief came on board she asked if I would be her Public Information Officer, which I did for 6 months. I am now in Crime Prevention and working closely with our new Public Information Officer, a civilian named Genevieve Judge. I am married to Lt. Phil DeNiro of SPD, and have two children. I have three years until retirement and want to make them count the most in my career!

Thanks very much, and be safe!
