The LSPOA Social Committee recently faced a challenging situation recently. The Sunday, October 5 Fall Potluck only had about 40 to 45 people had signed up to attend, significantly lower than the usual turnout of 75-90 participants. Several neighbors mentioned that they would not be in town until later in October or even early November.
After some discussions, the decision was made to cancel the October date, and instead have the Potluck on Saturday, November 22 in the Westway cul-de-sac. Additionally, LSPOA has applied for a grant from the City which, if awarded, will underwrite costs for a jazz musician to perform, adding a special touch to the gathering.

When original host Carrie Cox realized those who had planned to attend on October 5 would be disappointed, she promptly proposed holding a “mini-potluck” at her lovely home. Neighbors enthusiastically agreed, and in the end, nearly 50 people joined in.
Carrie and Ken Cox graciously supplied all necessary tables, tablecloths, cutlery, glasses, napkins, plates, etc., a wonderful wine, beer, water and soft drink selection, and a delicious honey-baked ham. Katie Best, Vic Bass & I arrived early to help Carrie and Ken set up both indoors and out. The weather appeared to hold and the stage was set!
The neighbors truly outdid themselves with their culinary contributions. Sandra Appignani and Mark Baumgarten created a beautiful charcuterie board that became an inviting centerpiece. Two different neighbors brought luscious rib dishes, adding a savory note to the meal.
Dr. Ron Stanish delighted everyone with his famous baked beans, while the Tilkemeier Family served a hearty and flavorful turkey chili. Carolynn Ewertsen and Doug Turkalo contributed a tomato, peach, and burrata salad, a refreshing balance to other items.
Desserts were equally impressive. Carol Bowen baked apple cider donut cookies and PBJ blondies, Katie Best brought her irresistible brownies, and individual apple tarts rounded out the dessert offerings. With so many delicious options, no one went hungry.
Throughout the evening, neighbors mingled, chatted, enjoyed good food, drinks, and the Cox’s hospitality. The gathering concluded with a stunning sunset all could admire from the Cox’s beautiful loggia—a perfect ending to a memorable night together.

A note for your calendar: there WILL be a Potluck in the Westway Cul-de-Sac on Saturday, November 22: Featuring a special performance 6:00 - 8:00 pm by Jazz Vocalist Matt Ragas & his live band!
The LSPOA Board applied for and received a City of Sarasota Neighborhood Partnership grant that is covering this cost! You should have received an invitation this week. Please respond and let us know you're coming and what you'd like to bring.
