On Sunday, March 23rd, the LSPOA Spring Potluck unfolded like a scene from a storybook. With a brilliant blue sky, temperatures in the upper 70s, and low humidity, the weather was perfect for the event. The Social Committee's decision to trust the weather months in advance paid off, as 90 Lido Shorians gathered in the Westway Drive cul-de-sac to enjoy a wonderful evening.
The ever-organized Carol Fuoco arrived at 3:45 PM, ready to orchestrate the setup with her usual efficiency. A reliable group of volunteers quickly followed, transforming the cul-de-sac into a picturesque setting with tables, chairs, tablecloths, and floral centerpieces. Everything was meticulously arranged, setting the stage for another magical LSPOA event.
Neighbors began arriving promptly at 5:30 pm, greeted warmly by Elaine Bellin who handed out name tags with a smile. The culinary wizards of Lido Shores brought their unique and delicious dishes to the appetizer, main dish, side dish and dessert tables, creating a feast for the senses.
Amid the bustling arrival of neighbors, an unexpected and humorous event unfolded. Two-unfamiliar women appeared, and started making out name tags. Asked who they were, they replied “friends of the caterers.” Laughter erupted as those nearby explained this was not a catered event! The women confessed they were out for a walk, saw the festivities and thought they looked like great fun. They left quietly, adding a touch of unexpected amusement, but how right they were about the fun!
Janet Augustine, our long-time bartender and helper extraordinaire was ready and poured wine, beer and soft drinks for the assembled group. We are ever grateful to Judy and Fred Fiala for getting us such wonderful wines!
We began with an array of delightful appetizers that set the tone for the feast ahead. Examples included Cheryl and Roland Stewart’s gorgeous charcuterie and salmon dip, Janet Minker and Elliott Himelfarb’s juicy plump shrimp with a tangy remoulade, and Jorja and Jerry Allen’s shrimp dip, which added another layer of deliciousness.
Neighbors chatted happily and greeted one another, and then it was time for the main courses, sides and salads. The LSPOA cooking talent shone again! Mattias Schubnell brought his always popular German pizza, while Art Abdinoor’s BBQ pork was nothing short of amazing. Cathy Voigts’ lasagna, and Colleen Carroll’s lovely chilled salmon and other dishes added to the culinary magic.
These tasty treats were accompanied by several wonderful salads from Rita Greenbaum, Betsy and John Tilkemeier, David and Jodi Feuerstein, and Sally and Bill Kling. In addition, Ron Stanish brought his legendary baked beans which were a hit as always.
This was followed by fabulous desserts, overflowing with treats from pies and creamy delights to tropical fruit salad, brought by Carol Fuoco, Miriam Cassell, Karen Sweeney, Joan Reinbach, Rita Greenbaum, and Carol Bowen.
After the sun had set, the lovely evening began to wind down. Neighbors sprang into action like a team of elves, taking down tables, folding chairs, and returning the cul-de-sac to its original state. With warm goodbyes and promises to meet again, another excellent LSPOA event came to a delightful close.
The Social Committee (Jan Farber, Colleen Carroll, Carol Bowen, Anne Essner, Betsy Tilkemeier and Ursula Guyer) want to thank everyone who volunteered to help make the evening a great success!
