| Cocktail reception begins 2023 LSPOA Annual Meeting |
In an effort to "shake things up a bit," this year's LSPOA's Annual Meeting (January 21st) was moved back to the Bird Key Yacht Club. The past few years have featured an outdoor reception and sit-down dinner at the Sarasota Yacht Club.
Outgoing President Cathy Voigts led the attempt to create a more casual meeting atmosphere. Retained was the always well received open-bar cocktail reception, with passed hors d'oeuvres, including mini-crab cakes, sesame chicken bites and vegetarian spring rolls. Some 80-Lido Shorians and neighborhood association guests attended.
The dinner was much more informal than in the past, with a buffet-style food station, featuring a Korean Bao Bun Station with Bulgogi Beef Tenderloin and a Taco Bar with Lime infused Mahi Mahi or Pork Carnitas. But with plates laden with food, attendees crowded around the available tables and "sat down" to eat anyway.

Cathy delivered an intentionally abbreviated Annual Meeting Address... opening with a special welcome to guests Chris Goglia, President of St Armands Residents Association and his wife Cathy, and Carl Shoffstoll, President of the Lido Key Residents Association and his wife Cindy. We've worked closely with the other Associations over a number of common barrier island concerns.
New LSPOA Board members were also introduced:
- Bill Farber - President
- Erika Ivanyi - Vice President and acting Secretary
- Michelle Swartz - Treasurer
- Returning Directors Fic Isaac, Hilary Valentine, Carol Fuoco, Jennifer Fleming
- New Members Ernie Smith, Merrill Ketchum
Cathy also welcomed nine-new LSPOA members to the neighborhood in 2023, the completion of a new roof on the Pavilion, repairing the Pav ramp and parking area damaged by Hurricane Idalia, as well as needed repairs to the Beach access gates.

Cathy thanked retiring Board Member Stu Cassell for his service on the LSPOA Board, as well as Social Committee Co-Chairs Jan Farber, Colleen Carol, Carol Bowen and Carol Fuoco for helping to make the event a success.
Also receiving nods from the Prez were standing committee members Katie Best, who greets new members with the coveted beach clickers, Elliott Himelfarb for his invaluable service in keeping neighbors informed of current events and leads the effort to maintain our Beach property, Denis Bischoff who represents LSPOA at the CCNA (Coalition of City Neighborhoods Association), as well as the St. Armands and Lido Key Neighborhood Associations, and your Website Editors Janet Minker and Bob Thill, who valiantly try to keep you up to date on various events, news and gatherings in the hood.
