Third Annual LSPOA Golf Cart Carolers Entertain the Neighborhood

LSPOA Golf Cart Carolers

On the beautiful cool crisp Thursday evening of December 21, 2023, our enthusiastic neighbors gathered once again at 6:45 PM for the THIRD Annual LSPOA Golf Cart Caroling Fest.

With new laminated song sheets, another box of trusty candles, and Lee’s fingers limbered up for the accordion, we set out with five-decorated carts, two-decorated electric bikes and several walkers.  We began the night with around 20-Carolers... but swelled to well over 35-at different homes.

The procession started off in the cul-de-sac at Lois Trotochau’s house with close neighbors coming down from their balconies to join in... and young folks holding song sheets and waving candles as we raised our voices with carols such as Deck the Halls, Silent Night and We wish you a Merry Christmas.

We ventured next to Peggy & Ken Abt’s house with more songs, hugs and good wishes and the feeling of camaraderie was certainly circulating.  We arrived at the Cassell’s house next where, again like Lois, Peggy & Ken, Stuart & Miriam were anxiously awaiting our visit.  We raised our voices in unison (and some pretty cool alto, tenor and bass) and the air was electric.

Stuart asked for special thoughts for Israel and Ernie Smith stepped up with a wonderful impromptu prayer that really set the stage for this emotional season.

Onward we traveled to Ken McMillan and Ron Stanish’s home where we were now in rare form and so entertaining that we got rewarded with warm apple cider in cups with cinnamon sticks!  Ron & Ken called them ‘roadies’ because they knew we couldn’t come in so the cups were ‘to go’!  So smart you guys, thank you.

Now to our first new house for this season for the Golf Cart Carolers, we headed to Fred & Judy Fiala’s home.  They couldn’t believe how big our group was and how impressive we were!  They came out and joined us as well as Gracie (Himelfarb/Minker’s beautiful dog) and Dash (Desenberg/Mawn dog, who from now on will be known as DASHER). Lots more hugs, photos and good cheer was had by all as we left for our final home, also new to us this year.

Stuart & Gail Barzman were eagerly awaiting our visit as they had a very special surprise for The Golf Cart Carolers.  Gail had spent many years teaching signing in a Catholic school and as we sang, she signed the beautiful words to our music.

I know I wasn’t alone in feeling it.  The evening was magical.  Thanks to everyone.
