Fall Season Kicks off with Cul De-Sac Potluck

LSPOA Fall Potluck Sunday October 15th

A balmy night, gentle breezes blowing – a lovely respite from the recent scorching heat and stultifying humidity. The perfect setting for the LSPOA Fall Potluck on Sunday, October 15th.  Capitalizing on the huge success of the Spring 2023 “block party” style Potluck held in the cul-de-sac on Westway Drive, the Social Committee once again decided to enjoy the open feel and easy setup of the spacious cul-de-sac location.

The Westway cul-de-sac neighbors once again kindly allowed us to block access to their driveways for a few hours, and those in town joined in the festivities. A large number of helpful neighbors answered the call to come at 4 p.m. to set up tables with festive fall orange and yellow tablecloths and lovely mini-mums as centerpieces.

Neighbor dishes devoured quickly

At 5 p.m., more than 65 Lido Shorians gathered to enjoy the perfect fall evening, and reconnect with friends they hadn’t seen over the summer. They savored delicious home-made dishes like Bob Essner’s Food Network-worthy gazpacho (can we get the recipe?), Lorraine and Richard Cassis’ pumpkin soup, Colleen Carroll’s beef filet, Carol Bowen’s camarones enchilados (shrimp in an enchilada sauce), not to mention other lovely appetizers, salads, and desserts including Diane Desenberg’s home-grown very sweet bananas.

LSPOA’s favorite amazing bartender and tireless helper Janet Augustine made sure everyone’s glasses were filled, and the food tables were easily accessed and delightfully displayed.

It was an amazing evening! But around 8 p.m., although it was already long dark (thank you Westway streetlights for lighting things for us), the evening sadly came to an end. Once again many neighbors leapt into action, and the tables, chairs, tents and glasses were quickly and safely stored for the Spring 2024 Potluck (April 2024, date and time to be announced later).

While the Westway cul-de-sac has twice served as a lovely location, the Social Committee asks that you consider volunteering your home to host the next event. It’s easy (you don’t have to lift a finger – the magical LSPOA elves set everything up), and it’s fun, easy and a great way to meet new neighbors. If you are interested in hosting, please feel free to reach out to Jan Farber, Colleen Carroll or Carol Bowen to discuss.

Many thanks to Bob Thill for his wonderful photos. See you at the Annual Meeting.
