'Tis the season. The Lido Shores Book Club this week donated $1,300 worth of children's toys for the Sarasota County Guardian Ad Litem program. They got their inspiration by reading the book, Beautiful Country, by Qian Julie Wang.
It recounts Wang's childhood, moving from China to New York City as an undocumented immigrant. She searched garbage cans for toys... which prompted the Book Club's collection of toys for children here in Sarasota.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's office hosts an annual toy drive benefiting the Guardian Ad Litem program through the 12th Circuit Court. The drive benefits more than 1,300 children throughout Sarasota, Manatee and Desoto counties who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect, and have been appointed a Guardian Ad Litem.
The Book Club meets the first Monday of each month. For more information, contact LSPOA member Laura Muth at lauracmuthpa@gmail.com or text her at 410-245-7196.
