Spreading Cheer - Not Corona Virus

Some people panic. Others fret or withdraw. LSPOA members Kathy and Dr. Lee Edstrom, on the other hand, had a more "novel" and uplifting approach to the ongoing Pandemic that is the Corona Virus.

On St. Paddy's day, instead of hunkering down and self-quarantining, the long-time Lido Shores residents did something inspiring. They managed to, for the most part, follow social distancing guidelines, while at the same time spreading cheer rather than disease.

In a Shamrock decorated golf-cart... they tooled about the hood around sunset. Accompanied by his
accordion, Lee and Kathy serenaded fellow "shut-ins"... luring most outside... and some to even join in. And bringing much-needed smiles to all.

According to Kathy: "It was St. Patrick's day after all. So Lee pulled out the Scandalli, worked up a few old Irish chestnuts as I worked on the "Paddy Wagon "and off we went. Surprise, laughs and tears, lots of them, but the best part was when everyone joined in for 'God Bless America' as the end of each visit. It just proved to us... we are Lido Shores Strong." But wait...there's more.

Also, at 5:00 each afternoon, Lee & I have been opening our windows and broadcasting the aria “Nessun Dorma” for the neighbors (it’s only 3 minutes long and no one has complained yet, ha). We hope it inspires solidarity and unity – and hope – as the final words “Vincero” (We Shall Win) saturate the neighborhood.

Kathy and Lee are also heading up an an-hoc group of Lido Shorians who stand ready to help any neighbors who might need medications, help with shopping or just someone to check in to make sure all is well.
