The highly popular Lido Shores House Tours are back this year and better than ever during the upcoming SarasotaMOD Weekend November 8-10. This is the 6th annual SarasotaMOD Weekend and it has grown steadily every year in sophistication and attendance.
Lido Shorians should be buying tickets now - many events are nearly sold out, so hurry. People who live in our neighborhood already realize how special our architectural heritage is, but this is a great chance to learn more while celebrating it.
This year’s theme is Sarasota in the Sixties, and should be lots of fun. SarasotaMOD Weekend was originated in 2014 by our own Janet Minker and Elliott Himelfarb, and has now grown to be a nationally recognized event.
The Sunday morning panel features discussions about updating mid-century homes and preservation, which is a timely topic in our neighborhood as well.

| Line for tours of the Umbrella House on Westway Drive |
Lido Shores is a major birthplace of the Sarasota School of Architecture movement and many of its most famous architects did work here.
These tours are only possible through the generosity and hard work of our neighbors, who agree to open their amazing homes to the public, for the benefit of architectural education and SAF. Without our gracious and fabulous homeowners, there would be no tour. SAF is enormously grateful to each of them, and to all our neighbors who are understanding about extra traffic and guests in the neighborhood that weekend. We have a fabulous neighborhood, and it’s a privilege to share it with the architectural enthusiasts who recognize its importance. A big Thank You to all of Lido Shores!!!

8-homes plus the Umbrella House and the Hiss Studio are open this year (access to UH and Hiss are only available as part of a bundle ticket; the regular ticket provides access only to the 8-other homes). Several of the homes this year are new to the tour. Many other homes will be mentioned in the tour materials as houses to note (from the street only) while walking by, due to their significance.
It’s impressive that we have so many homes designed by a range of important, nationally and internationally recognized architects both past and present. The tour brochure provides educational info on the neighborhood and many of its homes.
The Lido Shores tours are Open House style; docents are at each home, and tour participants can come in any time during the 3-hour open house each day on Saturday and Sunday, November 9th and 10th from 1:00-4:00 pm.
Several vendors will be stationed outside the Umbrella House and all neighbors are welcome to visit them. The SarasotaMOD Shop will be open during the tours, including a number of mid-mod items and featuring the work of artist John Pirman.

| Inside the Umbrella House |
Nancy’s Bar-B-Q will be serving from noon to 4:00 pm each day, so all neighbors should feel free to stop by to purchase food (better than Bite Squad!); B’s Cool Treats will be there too, selling craft pops and other frozen goodies. Same-day ticket sales are available at the Umbrella House so you can still join in the fun of the house tours spur of the moment.
Lido Shores Homeowners participating in SarasotaMOD this year:
Diane Aigler Cook and Jonathan Cook, Stu and Gail Barzman, Carol Bowen, Lee and Kathy Edstrom, Bruce and Kimberly Peterson, Dr. Bob and Sue Lifeso, Ken and Carrie Cox, Bob and Anne Essner, Adria Wisner and Stephen Lang, Tony and Andrew Garvin.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
Carrie Cox
