Irma Followup: Electricity Still Out for Some

FPL crew restoring power in Sarasota
The big concern for about one-third of Lido Shorians on Tuesday (Sept 12th) was lack of power. An FPL outage report showed 36-of some 120-homes in Lido Shores still without electricity as of this writing (late Tuesday evening).

LSPOA Board member Roberto Arguedas walked the neighborhood and reports he saw FPL crews hard at work around the Strandhaus on Westway Drive.  Homes on the west side of Morningside Place and the east side of Center are still dark. We'll keep our fingers crossed that they'll stay with it and get the rest of our neighborhood up and running soon.

That's good news for people like Christine Isaaks 90-year old mother who lives with her and husband Bill at 1209 Westway. Their power is still out, and with daytime temperatures near 90-degrees, she says it's quite uncomfortable waiting for the power to go back on. On Lido Shores' bayside, Jennifer Holland reports Tuesday night that their power remained on throughout the storm at 412 Bowdoin Circle.

Lido Key north beach scoured by Irma but spared
Roberto also surveyed Lido Key beach... and says "the dunes are certainly not where we'd like them to be, but considering that a Hurricane passing on the other (West) side of us would have likely meant such a surge that the beach would have been a moot point." It's good to see the Pavilion still standing.

Roberto also reports the main beach access gate is stuck open... but the west gate is closed and not operating. Board member Elliott Himelfarb says he's alerted the McInerney's concierge and says he'll check out the inner gate when be returns Wednesday. Thank you to Roberto, Kent Williams and Jennifer Holland for sharing more photos. ~ BT, bthill@me.com
