Hurricane Irma Update

Dear LSPOA Members:

It's constantly changing before our eyes.  We've dodged the bullet for decades.  But the once incomprehensible is now stark reality.  We are all closely monitoring the impact of deadly Hurricane Irma upon our Lido Shores neighborhood.  What we enjoy most about our barrier island life on the water puts us at the most risk during a major storm of this magnitude.

As of this writing Saturday afternoon (Sept 9th)... (with the Weather Channel blaring in the background) Hurricane Irma has changed course and is barreling directly toward Sarasota.  Category 4 hurricane force winds and storm surges of at least four to six-feet are expected.  Sarasota County has ordered mandatory evacuation for Zone A, which includes  Lido Key.

Tropical force winds will most likely arrive in our area by 10 a.m. Sunday (Sept 10th) according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters say storm surge could begin as early as Sunday evening and will be at its peak Monday morning.
The Sarasota-Manatee area could receive between one to three feet of above ground level water and 6.75 in. of rain through Tuesday. As you read this post Sunday morning... hope springs eternal that Irma's path will change again and spare our community.

We've heard from several of our members who had planned to hunker down in place, but now in light of the dangerous storm path headed our way, have decided to evacuate. If anyone is planning to stay we urge you to to reconsider. It's just not worth it. But if you feel you must, or know of anyone who is staying, please let us know.

Send an email to Bob Thill at bthill@icloud.com or Bob Lifeso at lifeso1@aol.com. Also, please share your evacuation stories or where you're watching the storm from.

In the days to come, we must pull together to help our neighbors in need. We care about everyone's well-being in our tight knit island family. Please stay safe.

~ BT
