Our sincerest sympathies go out to Lido Shores neighbor John Currie, who  passed away on Saturday after a courageous 3- 1/2 year battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Disease.  John was a longtime Lido Shorian, avid golfer and devoted board member of the Asolo Rep.

The following is a reprint of the obituary which appeared in the Canadian newspaper National Post.

CURRIE, John Robert
December 10, 1938 to December 17, 2016

On December 17, 2016, John's spirit cast off the bonds of his failing body and set off into the universe on his next great adventure. He slipped away holding hands with the Girl of His Dreams, lover, best friend and wife, Chris. A life fulfilled in so many ways, with few regrets, a many-faceted life. John's career included student, corporate trainee, executive, management consultant, successful entrepreneur, advisor, and investor.

While admittedly not a natural born athlete, his drive and focussed determination enabled him to excel in many sports; skiing, tennis, scuba diving and, on a good day, golf. Who knew he had also been a cowboy and a farmer? He travelled the world, loved a good party, and treasured quiet times and laughter with good friends.

Most of all he loved time with his beloved wife Chris, his four children (Christopher, Carolyn, Amanda, and Jonathan), and two sons-in-law (Timothy and David). He was the best Grandad to his adored grandchildren (Austin, Celia, Lilah, Margaret, and Henry). Born and raised in London, Ontario, he attended LCCI and graduated in 1960 with an Honours Business Administration from University of Western Ontario Business School (now Ivey School of Business). In 1969, John and his partner developed a premier management consulting firm specializing in the marketing of consumer products.

They went on to create the foremost marketing company in Canada and sold it in 1981. In his next venture, John and another partner created a consumer products distribution and manufacturing company which grew to include 48 of North America's top 50 grocery retailers among its clients.

He is survived by first wife Jo (Georgette) Currie and predeceased by his second wife Elizabeth Anne Currie. He and his wife, Chris, shared homes in Toronto, Sarasota, and Virginia. They were only blessed with eleven years of marriage but made the most of them. Services will be decided at a later date. Donations, if desired, may be directed to the Toronto Community Foundation.
"Remember me for the good times,
the love and laughter we shared together.
I had a wonderful life."
