Board Decides Thumbs Down to Pets on LSPOA Beach Property

Lido Shorians worried about potentially dodging poop piles along our beach easement or pavilion path can breath easier. After conducting an on-line straw poll of members... the LSPOA Board of Directors voted to continue the long standing policy of not allowing dogs on our neighborhood beach property.

The email tally was 21-YES to 26-NO. While the question: "Do you favor allowing dogs on LSPOA Pavilion area Property" was an unscientific sampling of our members who responded, the results provided the board with a fairly good sense of where neighbors opinions fall.

Some voting YES to allowing dogs were enthusiastic about the idea, while others were tepid in their approval, with comments like:

"Fine for now, but discontinue the privilege of using the easement if people don’t clean up after their pet."

"Yes, but be sure there are strict rules."

"Yes, but scooping poop is a must."

"
There need to be clear rules about policing your own pets' waste and an option to revoke beach access."

"Yes, but on a trial basis only."

"The first time I step on sh*t, I vote No."

"Yes, until someone ruins it for us."

Those voting NO cringed at the thought that the few selfish pet owners already flagrantly
disregarding plea's to scoop in the neighborhood will now have even more places to leave unwanted deposits, saying things like:

"It's already a long standing problem with a few neighbors who don’t pick up."

"No, based on the state of the neighborhood about scooping and the number of reminders already."

"How would you police the poop?"

"We love our dogs, but please not on our beach area."

"No, LSPOA does not own the easement. We have the right of passage only. Our concern is dogs soiling the easement."

"Allowing dogs would only create more problems. Sorry Howard, we vote No."
(The last comment is in reference to Board Member Howard Rooks who initiated the discussion.)

Thanks to everyone who voted and expressed their opinion. Dogs are permitted on leashes and beaches in nearby Ken Thompson Park as well as Bird Key Park. Lido Shores pet owners are encouraged to be respectful of your neighbors and to pick up after your pooches on our streets, yards and driveways.
