Happy New Year to my LSPOA neighbors.
I hope all of you had a very happy holiday season surrounded by family and friends. I am certain many of you got caught up in the season of giving and donated to charities and gave gifts to organizations for at risk and under privileged children. I know I did, but my giving does not focus just around the holidays. It's a year-round mission.
Did you know that we have about 750 children living in foster care in Sarasota county? There are also 700 plus children in foster care in Manatee, and 1,100 in DeSoto counties. They range from infants to 18 years of age.
These are our most vulnerable kids. Not only do they not have the benefit of a stable loving and supportive home, but they get shuffled from foster placement to foster placement. They feel disposable, and they make these moves using trash bags. Some are moved so abruptly that what few possessions they own get left behind.
I can't change the circumstance of their lives, but I can help them have more dignity. So I am sponsoring and organizing a Duffle Bag Project. I have purchased 130-duffle bags and an assortment of items, from hygiene products, to clothing to put in them. If you would like to join me and a group of my friends, I welcome you to purchase or donate to the purchase of needed items.
If this cause touches your heart the way it did mine, please call me at 941-544-6693. I welcome your help!
Thank you,
Lisa Kates
