LSPOA Board: Back to Work After Summer Hiatus

The LSPOA Board resumed its monthly meeting schedule on September 15th, followed by another session on October 6th. Notices announcing the meetings were posted on the LSPOA website and all interested members invited to sit in. Former LSPOA President Bob Garvin attended the September meeting and Jon Boscia and Phi Fuoco provided comments via email. Alice and Wayne Freed attended the October meeting, as did Lynn Carvel. The Board appreciates their contributions and urges all members to express their opinions and suggestions. Major topics discussed at both meetings focused on building a proposed storage structure at the Pavilion area and on planning for 2015.

In a Letter from the President posted online earlier this year, members were notified that the board is considering building a storage structure intended to hold Association equipment, which includes two sports tents, two 6’ tables, numerous paper goods, a coffee urn, decorations, garden hoses, and a bocce court brush and roller. These items are used at LSPOA functions, including our Fourth of July “Hot Dogs on the Beach” event, twice-monthly Sunset Gatherings and for other occasions during the year. An Association storage space would allow easy access to LSPOA property – now being stored in neighborhood garages – without the hassle of coordinating with members who might be out of town. The Board specified a sturdy, code-compliant storage unit; discussion has focused primarily on feasibility, appearance and cost. Cost estimates are $4,000 - $5,000 with the current proposal (see drawings, below) providing a low-profile, attractive design that would be in harmony with our Pavilion. If members wish to express an opinion, please respond via email (lidoshores@gmail.com) or send a letter (LSPOA, 1001 Westway Drive, Sarasota, FL 34236). A vote will be taken on this project at the November 10th Board meeting.

The Board has also started to plan for 2015. This process includes preparing a budget, which was presented and approved at the October meeting, and reviewing the current Board roster to identify those who will be subject to term limits at the end of 2014.  Treasurer Diane Desenberg, who has served LSPOA long and well, notified the Board that she is stepping down after this year. So in addition to seeking new Board members, the Board is also looking for a new Treasurer. Please contact any LSPOA Board member to discuss your interest in serving on the Board.

LSPOA’s next Board of Directors meeting will take place on Monday, November 10th at 5 PM at President Anne Essner’s home at 1301 Westway Drive. All interested LSPOA members are invited to attend.
