Volunteer Trash Pickup Day Scheduled Sunday February 9th

Editors Note: LSPOA Member Lisa Kates brought up this idea at Monday's Annual Membership Meeting and we think it's a worthwhile project to pursue. Thanks for caring, Lisa.  ~ BT

Shout out to LSPOA volunteers:

The green space between the St. Armands bridge and the New Pass bridge is the gateway to Lido Shores and a reflection on our neighborhood. Currently it is not a welcoming reflection, as it is strewn with trash. Now that the easement from St. Armands Circle to Morningside Drive has been so beautifully groomed, it has exposed years of accumulating litter in the mangroves.

I know we don't own this land, but is this what we want people to see when they walk and drive by when they are considering Lido Shores to purchase a home? I somehow doubt it. In the past, the Fialas were gracious about keeping it picked up, but we all need to step up, bend over and help in maintaining this roadway.

I propose that we have three dates a year that we, the LSOPA, put on our gloves, take our rakes out and open our bags to pick up trash along the wall, the road and in the mangroves. Maybe we can utilize (hint-hint) Bob Essner's and Howard Rook's golf carts to transport the filled bags?

Richard and I have already begun the process but there is still a lot left to be cleaned up. The more of us that participate, the less there is to do. The more regularly we do it, the less there will be to pick up. Lets make this roadway reflect the type of neighborhood we are! Classy, fun, committed, and caring.

No date will be perfect, so I propose that Sunday, February 9, 2014 be our first gathering of debris gatherers. Let's meet at the corner of Morningside Drive and John Ringling at 9:00 a.m. I will supply rubber gloves and drinking water. You hopefully will provide enthusiasm and a can do spirit.  Please bring a rake or pole to use to extract litter under the trees and in the mangroves.

To RSVP, please email me at mlk934comcast.net. I truly do appreciate all of your help. The more of us there are, the less time this will take. Give it an hour and you will be thrilled with the results.
Oh yeah, proudly wear your LidoWear T-shirt so passersby know who we are!

Thank you!

Lisa Kates

Future Work Dates: May 1st and November 16th at 9:00 am
