Suspicious Person in Neighborhood Reported

Alert Lido Shorians on Center Place alerted Sarasota police to a suspicious person going door to door in our neighborhood Sunday evening, May 19th. Kathryn Dunlap called LSPOA President Bob Thill and reported that police responded and questioned an 18-year old African American male, along with a white male who had apparently dropped him off and was driving an older blue van. The African American man was going door to door and claimed to be from Palmetto, FL. Other neighbors had just turned him away.

He had no outstanding warrants and did not turn up in a police computer search. Board Member Andrew Vac saw officers questioning both men and then escorting them from our neighborhood with a warning. Andrew also called Bob Garvin to activate the LSPOA phone tree. The man going door to door was slim, about 6-feet tall, was wearing dark pants and a red, long sleeve knit shirt. Neighbors say he was carrying what appeared to be a white laundry basket.

Because the yet to be apprehended burglary ring that has preyed upon homes on nearby North Washington, and the recent interrupted burglary by Jan Blivas on Morningside Drive in Lido Shores, we ask that you continue to err on the side of caution and immediately call Sarasota police at 911 when you see anything or anyone out of the ordinary.
