Pipe Work & Repair to Affect Lido Shores

Editors note: The City of Sarasota asked that we pass along this information on an upcoming project that will affect Lido Shores.
________________________

The City of Sarasota’s Utilities Division will be starting the cleaning and video taping of the lines around June 1st with the project expected to last about 150 days. This work is all trenchless so there will be no excavation or heavy construction equipment. The lines will be accessed through sanitary manholes. We will post the areas with door hangers with plenty of notice before the work is actually scheduled to begin. There should be no road closings and traffic flow should be minimally impacted. The affected areas will include Lido Shores, Lido Key as well as St. Armands Key and the alleys behind St. Armands Circle, some of this work will have to be done after hours so as not to interfere with the businesses on St. Armands Circle.

Please pass this on to the appropriate associations and tell them that if they would like to meet with us we will be happy to give a more in depth look at the project. Please call me if you have any questions. 941-650-4226.

Thanks,
Alex Hernandez
City Of Sarasota

Below are the details of the project:

Before we can insert the pipe liner a jetting machine is inserted through the manhole opening to clean the sewer line. Once the line is clean a robotic video camera is sent through the line to videotape the pipe condition as well as to verify the number of houses that are connected to that particular main line. This phase of the project should last about 30 days.

After all of the lines have been cleaned and video taped the next step is to do the actual pipe lining or rehabilitation. This entails the insertion of a resin impregnated felt bag  through the sanitary manhole which when cured will strengthen and  seal all the cracks in the pipe.

The equipment used to perform these tasks will make noise but nothing really unbearable. We will do probably 80% of the work during normal business hours and all the work in the alleys behind the shops at St. Armands at night.

We will give as much notice as possible to the residents and business owners as possible, we try to give at least 48hr advance. As soon as the contractor gives me a proposed schedule I will share with you. We will not be shutting any water or sewer lines, but in certain cases we might ask the residents to try to reduce water usage as much as they can to make the process a little smoother but this has never been an issue in the past.
