Memory Drive

Editors Note: Bob Garvin passed along a couple of classic photos and we thought we'd share the memories. Here's what Bob had to say:

Original Philip Hiss House on Westway Drive

I took these pictures from my office while they were starting demolition of the original Phillip Hiss House on New Pass in 2002. Hiss, as you may know, was the developer of Lido Shores.

After demolition
The house was owned at the time by Dr. Mel Simmons. I threw away other photos that showed the big tree and open view of New Pass we had for 6 months before Adrienne Vittadini built what are now the Boscia and Essner houses.

Mel Simmons and his wife sold the 220 foot wide lot, annual real estate tax close to $30,000, for a hair under $4 million. He was then in his early 90s and had told me this was for his third wife's retirement income.  ~BG
