"Midnight Clear" Night for 5th Annual LSPOA Golf Cart Christmas Caroling

Lee, on accordion, and Kathy Edstrom lead LSPOA carolers at Lois Trotochau's home

It was a GORGEOUS evening!  A Perfect evening, calm, warm but with just enough chill in the air to set the mood for our FIFTH Annual Golf Cart Carol Sing on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.  It was suggested we add “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” for the song sheets in the future because there was truly a feeling of those lyrics, with camaraderie and good will.

There was an addition to our decorated golf carts this year - a souped up ‘400 Horsepower Sleigh!’  Not the one John Pardi sings about (great song by the way), but Shelly & Ross Masters' very own!  Gave me some ideas about decorating our fabulous array of neighborhood cars and traveling through the streets in a Holiday parade!!

Lois Trotochau was waiting patiently as we started the evening with our traditional first song “Deck the Halls” and we were delighted to have her join the ‘troupe’ this year. We decided to add a secret new stop (thank you Jeff Heath for your suggestion) and surprised Bill Farber (had to let Jan in on the plan to make sure they were home).  I’m sure I saw a sparkling tear form in Jan’s eye.

This surprise just added to the magic that was in the air.  We continued to Ken and Peggy Abt’s house where we were again treated with heartfelt gratitude from the couple.  Peggy & Ken stood majestically on their upper stairs and took pictures of us as we sang.

From there we headed to Miriam and Stu Cassell’s house where we sang our annual Christmas songs by Jewish composers.  This year they were ready for us, and we learned more about Jewish composers writing holiday music with Stuart Salenger adding interesting tidbits we didn’t know.

Dr. Ron Stanish’s home was next, and we were greeted by Ron and his friends decked out in Christmas costumes. They purposely forewent their usual delicious hot chocolate because of the party everyone was invited to after the Carol Sing. Fred and Judy Fiala were next... where we found Judy anxiously waiting with some sad news that Fred had injured his eye and couldn’t come out.  We sang loud in hopes he would hear us from his room inside the house.

We took some great group photos and then moved on to our last stop, Stu and Gail Barzman’s house, where we were again treated with her expert Christmas Carol signing abilities.

Again, there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd.  They also treated us with delicious cider, spiked? - I’ll never tell. They wanted to have a big spread like they surprised us with last year, but knew everyone was invited to the After Party in Low Tide. (Organizer Kathryn and Lee Edstrom's home.

There was truly something ‘in the air.’  It’s very difficult for me to put a name on it…but many of us felt it and even spoke about it as the party continued late into the evening.  The night was calm, Midnight clear, glorious - much like the song of old.

Magical, spiritual, can’t pinpoint it? But it certainly made my whole Christmas Season, my very own 5th Season, extra special this year.

Thank you all.
