Syncopated Brass Concert Shines on Lido Beach

Blue skies and rousing tunes on the beach

Patience paid off. It took some anxious sky watching and rescheduling with a rain date... but Wednesday's April 6th Concert on the Beach went off without a hitch. Under a clear blue sky, some 45 Lido Shorians brought lawn chairs and libations to listen to "The Syncopated Brass," a talented ensemble of five musicians; two trumpets, a French horn, tuba and a trombone.

Thanks to notes from Janet Minker, the band played a rousing hour-and-a-half set, each member taking turns to talk about the numbers.

The evening's set list included: When the Saints Come Marching In, the Pink Panther theme, Elton John's Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Mack the Knife, the William Tell Overture by Rossini and Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey, dedicated to Bill Farber. The encore was God Bless America, with everyone rising to their feet and singing along. 

The brainchild of LSPOA members Jan and Bill Farber, this was the second beach concert, in what looks like it may be turning into a series.

If you missed this one, or just like the idea of hanging out at our beach and listening to live tunes, we have another fun event you won't want to miss. This time, we're changing things up a bit.

The high energy 5-piece Little Manatee Blue Grass Band is bringing its southern string music and intricate vocals to the "Pav".

The date is set for Thursday, April 28th, from 5:30 to 7:30, with music to start around 6:00pm. This event will also feature another fun twist, the popular Pig on the Road BBQ Truck. 

Menu items include Carolina Pulled Pork sandwiches, Burgers, Quesadillas, Fried Buffalo Chicken, Mac & Cheese and an assortment of sides and other goodies.  Plan to grab dinner before, during or after the music.

Bring your lawn chairs, your favorite beverages, your appetite and cash or credit cards. We'll see you at the "Pav" on April 28th.
