LSPOA member Carrie Cox rings NYSE bell for International Women's Day

We've all heard the familiar clanging of the bell on Wall Street.  But I would hazard a guess that not too many of us will ever have the opportunity to do what Lido Shoriran Carrie Cox did this past Monday, March 7th.  Carrie had the honor of standing front and center at the podium of the New York Stock Exchange and ringing that bell in honor of International Women's day.

How did that happen?  Carrie is the Chairman of the Board of the S&P 500 company Organon.  It has about $6-billion in revenue and was spun out of Merck Pharmaceuticals last June.  Its primary focus is on women's healthcare, especially conditions and diseases that primarily affect women.

"We are very proud to have assembled the most diverse Board of Directors in the S&P 500,  including women and under-represented minorities; the Board is about 70% extremely accomplished women.  In recognition of this, the NYSE invited us to bring the women of the Board, and the executive team, to ring the opening bell to celebrate International Women’s Day."  

Carrie says Organon also decided to give all its employees the day off on March 8, International Women’s Day, to focus on their own health.  So they rang the bell to open the stock exchange the day before.  

According to Carrie:  "It was a tremendous honor and a privilege to be invited to do this - so exhilarating and an incredible amount of fun.  The NYSE ceremony is more than just the actual bell-ringing on the platform, but that is where the energy and excitement is greatest, and the entire experience was definitely one for the memory books."
