Porch Pirate Pounces in Lido Shores

Thief stealing package from 310 Morningside Drive front porch

They're called 'porch pirates', many times pilfering packages as quickly as they're delivered.  Lido Shorians Fik and Irene Isaac (310 Morningside Drive) were the latest victim.  The Isaac's had been away the past few days and returned home Saturday, July 4th, in the afternoon.

After checking their Ring Doorbell Video camera... they discovered that an Amazon package left on their front porch was stolen that morning at 9:45 am.  Their doorbell cam recorded what appears to be a young woman, wearing a black top with a hoodie, dark glasses, jean shorts and black shoes walking up and stealing the package.

With online deliveries on the rise during the Pandemic, so too are package thefts.  It's estimated that nearly 4 - out of 10 - Americans have had a package stolen from their front porch in the past year.  Thieves oftentimes follow Amazon drivers around and then move in to swipe the boxes.  Many people, like the Isaac's, have installed Ring or similar type doorbell cameras in an attempt to thwart the practice.

Here are some low tech suggestions to help safeguard deliveries.
  • Ship to Amazon lockers or UPS stores at secure locations,
  • Use hold for pickup,
  • Customize a delivery time,
  • Deliver to a neighbor who is home or
  • Opt in for delivery alerts to track packages, then have a neighbor pick them up as soon as they arrive.
The Isaak's want to make sure the word gets out that Lido Shores is not immune to porch piracy.  Be sure to call police if you see anyone or anything suspicious in the neighborhood.
