| Salad is served at the 2020 LSPOA Annual Meeting and Dinner at Sarasota Yacht Club |
A record 88 Lido Shorians gathered at the Sarasota Yacht Club on Sunday, January 19, to take part in what has become a MLK weekend tradition: the LSPOA Annual Meeting and Dinner. Members watched daylight wane while enjoying cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres on the Yacht Club terrace.
Those attending included soon-to-be former LSPOA members Howard Rooks, who lived 25-years in Lido Shores... and Cathy & Henry Rodrigues, who spent eight years in the neighborhood. Also, brand-new members Brian Belmont (new owner of the former Party House) and Bel Burns, who along with husband Mike are about-to-be buyers of Rodrigues' house, enjoyed their first annual meeting.

There were also the many “usual suspects” who loyally attend every year. Photographer Lori Sax captured the moments as members greeted one another and chatted away. (See more pictures at the end of the article)
With lively conversation at a high point, members were called to the SYC dining room for dinner and the Annual Meeting. Rather than the usual open seating, formal table assignments were made this year to give new and long-term members the chance to meet and mix. Thanks go to Diane Cook for obtaining the lovely centerpieces that created our table decor. Salads were served, wine glasses were filled and the room buzzed in anticipation.

Once all were seated, outgoing President Lynn Carvel welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order.
Bob Thill’s “Year in Review” video, another Annual Meeting tradition, did not disappoint. Bob did a great job of capturing the year’s activities on Lido Shores, including Potlucks, Hot Dogs on the Beach and Sunset Gatherings.
Lynn took over from there, going through LSPOA financials, beach status updates and other business at hand. She then called up all current board members and liaisons to introduce them to the group.

This year, two new nominees were elected to join the LSPOA Board of Directors: Cathy Voigts and Sue Weitendorf. Cathy and her husband Jan purchased their home on John Ringling Parkway five years ago in anticipation of retiring here. They made the final move to Lido Shores this past spring. A long career in banking prepared Cathy perfectly to take on her new position as LSPOA Treasurer.
Sue Weitendorf grew up in Jolliet, Illinois and had a successful career in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries in marketing and sales. She's been living on Longboat Key since 2008, but now makes Lido Shores her permanent home. Sue breeds and shows champion cats.
Here is the full slate of LSPOA Board of Directors for the coming year:

Meanwhile, dinner was served, featuring main course choices of red snapper, beef short ribs and eggplant rollatini. Key lime pie capped off the meal with a sweet touch.
Then everyone drifted off into the night, having once again experienced the spirit of camaraderie that sets Lido Shores apart from all other neighborhoods.
CALENDAR ALERT: Just to keep that warm glow going! Please mark your calendars for the Spring Potluck, Sunday, March 15th , from 5:30 – 8 PM at Lynn and Randon Carvel's home, 1340 John Ringling Parkway, Sarasota, FL 34236.
