150 Morningside Drive Break-In

Sarasota Police Crime Scene unit on the scene at 150 Morningside Drive
Sarasota Police responded to a burglary at Sue and Dr. Bob Lifeso's home, 150 Morningside Drive, on Tuesday afternoon, June 4th.  Police say two cars, a Tesla and Audi coup were both stolen.

One of the cars, the Audi, was found wrecked in Broome County, NY.

According to police, there was no visible sign of forced entry, and all the doors appeared to have been locked.  A crime scene specialist was seen dusting for finger prints.

Patrol Officer Steven Mayforth says whoever broke in "sure took their time," and "apparently made themselves at home in the house."

Police say it looked like someone sat on one of the beds, and a small amount of food was scattered about on the floor.  Nothing else but the vehicles appeared to have been taken.

I spoke with Bob Lifeso, who says all the doors and windows were locked, although no alarm was set.

The Lifeso's left on Friday morning.  The break-in was not discovered until after one of their stolen cars crashed Tuesday on Highway 81 in Kirkwood, New York in Broome County.

Emergency contact information in the glovebox led police to trace the car back to the Lifeso's.  New York State Troopers say the suspect crashed while driving a stolen Audi from Florida.  The man fled the scene and was later captured.  His identity has not yet been released as of this posting.

This is a good reminder to make certain all your doors and windows are locked and your alarm, if you have one, is set.  Be sure to have someone periodically check on your house, and be vigilant if you see something suspicious in the neighborhood.
