A REASON TO GIVE THANKS!

LSPOA members turned out at City Hall to protest before Monday night's Commission Meeting.

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT—LYNN CARVEL

WE DID IT! We stopped them in their tracks and put “host-occupied” rentals to bed for now.

After a long night filled with emotional testimony from both sides, heated disagreement amongst the city commissioners (some of whom thought the issue should have never been placed on the agenda), and a fist-fight that almost broke out in the audience with the instigator being escorted out by a policeman, the decision was finally made at 11:15pm. Commissioner Shaw made a motion “For this host-occupied rental issue to die tonight.” It was seconded, and then passed with a 3:2 vote.

This could not have happened without a team effort, and we are mighty force to be reckoned with when we’re all working together! Some examples include:
- LSPOA members emailing City Commissioners in opposition of Brody’s
   proposal.
- The unwavering support of neighbors who gladly picketed in front of City Hall and attended not one, but two city commission meetings to represent our neighborhood.
- Roberto Arguedas, Randon Carvel, Lois Trotochau, Bob Thill, Stuart Cassell, Ken Abt and Steve Reid all gave compelling presentations to the commissioners—and didn’t even hesitate when I asked for their help.
- And many others who couldn’t participate, reached out to me showing their support.

GREAT JOB TEAM LSPOA!

A special thanks to my partners-in-crime, Bob Thill, Elliott Himelfarb and Janet Minker. Bob wrote and distributed the opposition letter for neighbors to send to the commissioners, arranged all the press opportunities, and then took the heat off me by doing many of the interviews. Elliott and Janet flew into action designing and printing out protest signs at the last minute. The signs were key in advancing our message and drawing the press out to cover this issue. My heartfelt thanks!

Few, if any, neighborhoods could have come together so quickly in support of a common goal. This is what a unified neighborhood looks like. As we give thanks this week for all that we have, raise a glass in honor of our little neighborhood and the wonderful individuals that make it special. Wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving.
