<sup>This series is designed to offer insights and inroads into the history of the business of Major League Baseball (MLB) which will include a  discussion of the following subjects: the formation of the original baseball leagues; MLB’s status as the granddaddy of all American sports cartels being exempt from antitrust legislation; the exploitation of the players by the owners in their use of the reserve clause; their conspiracy to keep black players out of major league baseball; their creation of the reverse order of the amateur draft; the tax benefits of owning a major league baseball team; the impact of free agency; the luxury tax; revenue sharing; and the arbitration of players’ salaries. 



Stuart Cassell is a retired attorney who practiced in New York as a sole practitioner for over 33 years. He has a juris doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School and currently operates his own business as a Healthcare and Patient Advocate. He grew up in Brooklyn with his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers, loved and played the game, and continues to be a student of the game.
