It's Always a Great Day to Party on Our Beach
Historically an action-packed afternoon filled with sleek speedboats zooming up and down Lido Shores, this year the conclusion of the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix experienced multiple delays.
The race stopped after an aerial sighting of slow-moving manatees in the course lane to allow the threatened mammals time to swim to safer waters. A contestant's boat flipped at Turn 5 on the route, which required an assist from the police, and further delayed the competition. Luckily, no injuries occurred in either occurrence.

The water looked especially beautiful on race day

The pavilion shines
A giant thank you to Mary Lee Bischoff and Katie Lloyd, who helped create a festive atmosphere in the pavilion. Katie’s willingness and ability to transport a 10’ ladder made it possible to hang décor from the pavilion roof. And, a special thanks to Ken and Carrie Cox for the use of the ladder.
Despite the slowed pace of the race, guests and LSPOA members were enthusiastic about the day’s celebration.

Gail's inspiring art
Thank you to Gail Barzman for creating two original works to grace our recycling bins and encouraged guests to recycle their cans and bottles. With Gail's inspiration, we did a great job of keeping our beach clean.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Bob Lifeso and Mary Lee Bischoff for securing ice necessary to keep the beverages and ice cream chilled.
Thank you to Denis Bischoff for helping pick up the recycling containers. Enormous gratitude goes to Elliott Himelfarb for spraying the pavilion area multiple times to keep the fire ants and other biting bugs at bay. And as always, Janet Minker’s photos showing us at our best, enjoying each others company and our wonderful Lido Shores.
Mark your calendar for Sunday, July 1, 2018 when Webber’s Hot Dogs and the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix return for an encore performance.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Fall Pot Luck
at Lynn & Randon Carvel's home on Sunday, October 22.
Hope you enjoy your summer!
~ Peggy Shannon
