Lido Shores Involved in Sarasota Mod Weekend

A reminder that this weekend is Sarasota MOD Weekend 2016... an homage to all things Midcentury Modern in our fair city. Presented by the Sarasota Architectural Foundation, there'll be three days of tours, parties, films and presentations, including a celebration of Sarasota School architect Victor Lundy. And a lot of those tours will be in our own backyard. Here's a brief look at the schedule.  

• Meet Victor A. Lundy, FAIA, MOD’s very special guest, at the Friday, November 11th Opening Party and on Saturday, November 12th morning at Ringling College of Art + Design.

• Tour Lundy’s architectural gems including the Blue Pagoda, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sarasota and the Herron House in Venice, FL.

• Wine and dine poolside at the newly-restored Umbrella House.

• Be inspired by speakers and panelists who know and work with Lundy

• Visit the Art Center's exhibition of Victor Lundy's artwork including sketches from WWII, watercolors of the Blue Pagoda building and current work. The exhibit will run until December 3rd.

• Travel back to the future at SAF’s Replica of Paul Rudolph’s 1952 Walker Guest House

• Party on the Bayou at the Don Chapell House

The Sarasota neighborhood of Lido Shores is a treasure chest of midcentury and contemporary modern architectural gems. Enjoy an informative and inspiring tour of six significant homes designed by Phil Hiss, William Rupp, Edward “Tim” Seibert, Guy Peterson and Jonathan Parks. Featuring talks by architects and historians throughout the afternoon.

Friday is Veterans Day... and there'll be some traffic headaches to maneuver around. Here's the skinny from the City.

The City of Sarasota in conjunction with the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee will co-host the annual Veterans Day Parade on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 10:00 am in downtown Sarasota to honor our military veterans.  

There will be several road closures and vehicle tow away zones for the parade beginning on  Friday, November 11th at 8:00 am:

Friday, November 11, 2016 Street Closures:

·       8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Main Street from U.S. 301 to Mira Mar Court

·       8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Links Avenue from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard

·       8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Osprey Avenue from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard

·       8 a.m. – 1 p.m. – Central Avenue from Main Street to 1^st Street

·       8 a.m. – 1 p.m. – First Street from Pineapple Avenue to Central Avenue

·       8 a.m. – 1 p.m. – Pineapple Avenue from State Street to First Street
