On Sunday November 16, the weather was
fabulous – 85 degrees, balmy with a gentle breeze – a perfect evening for the
Lido Shores Fall Potluck Supper. Carrie and Ken Cox graciously
opened their lovely home (for the second time in 18 months) to over 70 Lido
Shorians who chatted, laughed and delighted in the splendid weather and
fantastic food, along with wonderful wines and beer kindly provided Judy and Fred
Fiala. It was particularly enjoyable for some
neighbors like Kathy Edstrom, Maria Gorczynski, and Carol Bowen who were happily down from the frigid North.
The Social Committee “elves”, including new neighbors Charles and Antoinette Ohlson, Mary Lee and Denis Bischoff, Phil Fuoco (who’d sailed down from Boston just in time), Kathy Edstrom, Anne Essner, Elliott Himelfarb, Kent Williams and others set up tables, chairs and centerpieces (that Carol Williams provided) in record time! The stage was set for a perfect evening.

As neighbors
arrived, Kathryn Dunlap warmly welcomed everyone and ensured they had
their name tags, updated and prepared by Kathy
Edstrom. Each dish brought seemed
more amazing than the previous, and included shrimp, ribs, homemade pizza, lamb
shanks, curries, casseroles, and breathtaking desserts.
Alas, even the most lovely
evenings have to come to an end, and around 8:30, the “elves” as well as other
spur of the moment volunteers rapidly whisked the tables and chairs from the City of Sarasota Neighborhood Services out the door to the trailer
waiting on Westway Drive.
Social Committee Chair Carol Bowen thanks all who volunteered and especially thanks our generous hosts the Cox's for their amazing hospitality!
