Perfect Weather, Great Turnout for November Potluck

Bob and Anne Essner open their home for November's Potluck
You couldn't ask for a better November night...or more gracious hosts for this year's Fall Potluck event. Bob and Anne Essner generously opened their home at 113 Morningside Drive — the famed white, Sarasota Modern Harkavy House — for an evening of neighborhood gourmet creations and plentiful libations. Some 55 LSPOA members turned out to tour the main floor and dine outdoors by candlelight.

The 7:30 pm closing time turned out to be more of a suggestion, as lingering guests relaxed and were treated to an impromptu listening session (everything from the Door's to Ella Fitzgerald to Steely Dan) on Bob's amazing sound system, swapped stories and somehow downed a bottle of Jose Cuervo Tradicionale in the process, for a couple of hours more.

The real star of the evening was the dinner, with an abundance of tasty apps and hearty entrees, including Bob E's meaty ribs and the Fiala's beef tenderloin. (Fred and Judy Fiala were supposed to be in New York for the NY Marathon but thanks to Superstorm Sandy were home in Sarasota.)

A special thanks to our Social Committee for a seamless team effort in setting up the candle-lit tables and whisking them away at night's end. Ken Abt spearheaded the afternoon unloading and end-of-evening loading of tables and chairs, ably assisted by Jean and Kent Williams, Paul Plourde, Janet Minker and Elliott Himelfarb and Kathy and Lee Edstrom among a host of others.

Thanks to the Sarasota Neighborhood Association for providing their trailer of tables and chairs. LSPOA has also applied for a $250 neighborhood grant (FY 2012-13) to pay for our Pop Craft Artisanal Popsicles, which were served from a cart for dessert, along with other member treats. Look for the Pop Craft cart Saturday's at the downtown Farmer's market.
